The Duck & The Grumpy Woods

Animation & Illustrations By: Kenneth Avendano

Sound Design by: David Søttrup

Created as part of a school project through an Audiovisual Workshop in collaboration with sound designer David Bøttrup from Sonic Collage school of sound design. In a short time span of four days David and I Collaborated on creating a story from associations of smells. While being blindfolded our professors gave us two distingt smells while we had to say our first associations with the smells. with these prompts we then went to the brainstorm table and created a story. The Grumpy woods came from a smell that we associated with an “old grumpy man who has a thorn in his side” and the concept of the mechanical puppet show came from a smell we asiciated with an old dusty wooden cabin/box.

Drawing inspiration from oldschool mechanical puppet shows I wanted the visuals to feel real and crafted by hand, cut from wood and hand painted. Everything slides, shakes when moving giving the this tactaile feel to it.
