A short film created during a four-day Audiovisual Workshop in collaboration with sound designer David Bøttrup from Sonic Collage School of Sound Design. Blindfolded, we were given two distinct smells and asked to say our first associations out loud — from those associations, we built a story from scratch. "The Grumpy Woods" grew out of a smell we linked to an old, grumpy man with a thorn in his side; the mechanical puppet-show concept came from a smell we associated with an old, dusty wooden cabin.

Drawing on old mechanical puppet shows, I wanted the visuals to feel handcrafted as if carved from wood and handpainted. Everything slides and shakes slightly when it moves, giving the piece a tactile, physical quality rather than a clean digital one.
